The thing about filed notes is that for me it was always annoying that they never taught practical things like this at college. I think whether you are an anthropologist, sociologist or even a psychologist, being in the field is part of the process and you an get more out of the fieldwork experience if you know how to take (or jot) good notes) down (and then learn how to transform those written mumblings into worthwhile and coherent reflexions.
Obviously, it's gonna be hard for us to incorporate ethnographic fieldwork into the syllabus, but what we can do is watch one or two ethnographic films and practice taking good field notes. This, by the way, will help you for activities such as writing film reviews, where being able to take fast notes in a movie theatre is key.
